Our Story
Ctrl Your Scroll was born from a moment of realisation on the cobblestone streets of Italy. In 2023, during a semester of studying abroad, our founder Tom found himself constantly reaching for his phone, mindlessly scrolling through social media, answering emails, and refreshing for pointless notifications. Even in the middle of some of the most beautiful cities in the world, he felt distracted, drained, and disconnected. But the real wake-up call came when he realised this habit wasn’t just costing him time and experiences - but it was also taking a serious toll on his wellbeing. He felt more anxious, exhausted, and overwhelmed than ever before.

Returning home to Australia, Tom couldn’t shake the feeling that something had to change.

Determined to understand why he, like so many others, had become so dependent on his devices, he and Co-Founder Xavier began a 24-month journey of discovery together. They spoke with friends, family, professionals, and researchers, diving deep into the latest evidence on digital habits, mental health, and focus. Their goal was clear: to find real, practical solutions that would help people not only reclaim their time but also improve their overall wellbeing. This journey culminated in the creation of Ctrl Your Scroll, a program designed to help individuals and workplaces break free from unhelpful digital habits and build healthier relationships with technology.
What started as a single program has now grown into a movement. Ctrl Your Scroll runs workshops across schools, businesses, and sporting organisations, helping people take control of their screen time, reduce digital distractions, and improve their focus, productivity, and wellbeing. But our work doesn’t stop at digital balance. As our reach has expanded, so has our mission.
We now offer a broader range of programs, including digital literacy education, helping people understand how social media works, how to protect themselves online, and what to do when faced with negative digital experiences. We also engage in advocacy work, sharing the latest research and insights through website updates and social media, ensuring individuals and organisations stay informed about the evolving digital landscape.

Beyond education and advocacy, we believe in the need for tech-free connection and socialisation. That’s why we created Ctrl Your Scroll Unplugged—a series of device-free social events designed to help people reconnect with the world around them, free from digital distractions.

At Ctrl Your Scroll, we’re not here to tell people to abandon technology - we’re here to help them use it better. Whether you’re an individual looking to reclaim your time, a workplace striving for better productivity, or a school aiming to educate students on healthy digital habits, we’re here to support you. Your journey to a healthier relationship with technology starts today.
